We will visit the Mongolia's biggest Monastery Gandantegchilin which luckily survived the communist purges in 1930s, followed by a visit to the Bogd Khaan Winter Palace Museum, a series of beautiful traditional buildings in which the eighth Living Buddha and the last king lived. The nearby Zaisan Memorial in front of the city offers the best views of Ulaanbaatar. In the evening, we will see a fascinating performance of traditional music and dance followed by the Welcome dinner in one of the best restaurants in the city. Day 2 - Khugno Khan Natural Preserve Today we leave the bustling city behind for the Mongolian countryside. After about 4-hour driving we will reach Elsen Tasarkhai, or "Piece of Sands". This stretch of sand is a long strip that originates in the Gobi and stretches all the way into the central aimags of Mongolia. We will hike around the Mount Khugno Khan visiting a small monastery at its southern foot and, if luck enough, we might spot ibex and other wildlife. Day 3 - Orkhon Waterfall Today we will continue our journey to the narrow valley of Orkhon River, which flows through spectacular volcanic landscape. The impressive waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. We will visit Tuvhon Monastery in the thick forest. Day 4 - Karakorum Glorious Erdene Zuu Monastery built in 16th century from the ruins of the ancient Mongol capital of Karakorum welcomes visitors from all over the world. Discover the surrounding area including the Turtle and Phallic Rocks. Day 5 - Tsenkher Hot Spa Today we will drive thru Arkhangai province, nicknamed the Switzerland of Mongolia for its natural beauty and spectacular scenery of mountains, cliffs, rapid rivers and quiet lakes. The springing out of deep earth hot spa is 86.5 C and contains various chemical substances useful for treating injuries, wound, radiculitis, fatigue and depression, thus the guests and locals use it with much respect. Relaxing bath under bright stars. Day 6 & 7 - Khorgo We will explore the Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park. The crater of the dead volcano covered with basalt lying in the east of the Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan, an excellent place for swimming and fishing. Day 8 - Jargalant, hot spa Beautiful forests of larch trees and thermal springs. Pinnacles of granites at 2260 m above sea level at the top of Tarvagatai Mountains offer excellent view of endlessness over the mountain range. Day 9 - Muren Our journey will take us to Muren, a provincial town on the northern shore of the River Delger at an altitude 1283 m above sea level. After check-in the hotel, we will drive west 25 km to Uushigiin Ovor for the ancient burial site with deer steles date back to 3000 years ago. Day 10 - Hovsgol Lake The Lake Hovsgol is one of the most scenic spots in Mongolia. This gorgeous alpine lake is surrounded by high mountains, meadows and forests, a complete contrast to the rest of Mongolia. Amazing 90 rivers and streams flow into the lake, but only a single river flows out - the Egiin Gol, which ultimately reaches the Lake Baikal in Siberia. Plenty of activities are available here including excellent fishing, swimming, hiking and horseback riding. Etc. We will explore the surrounding area on horseback and will visit a family of reindeer breeders. Day 11 & 12 - Chuluut River, Today we will drive to Chuluut River via Muren where you can go fishing for salmon, sturgeon and even for the Mongolian river monster, taimen. We will stay a full day at the river side so you will catch lots of fish. If you don't like fishing, you can discover the surrounding area on horseback. Day 13 - Lake Ugii This lake is a wonderful place for birdlife - cranes and ducks, to name just few species, migrate to the area around late April. This lake is also renowned for its fishing. Day 14 - Return to Ulaanbaatar Our countryside travel comes to an end and we will hit the road back to Ulaanbaatar. This will be an easy drive on paved road and we will arrive in the city in the afternoon. The rest of the day will be free for your leisure. Dinner will be in a local restaurant. Day 15 - Ulaanbaatar Today we will visit the Museum of Natural History where you can see a rich collection of dinosaur bones, skeletons and eggs found in the Mongolian Gobi, then visit Zanabazar Fine Art Museum that has a collection of world-class paintings, carvings and sculptures. In the afternoon, go shopping and pick up some cashmere, souvenirs and other excellent products that will remind you Mongolia back home.
